[/img]The Wastelands take up a good portion of the earth. It is generally far away from Metropolis, only going passed its eastern side, but the expanse of sand curves and comes very close to the Ruined City's borders on both the eastern and western side as it makes a sort of u-turn a few miles after the southern-edge of the city. The rest of the desert then curves off westward long before it reaches Metropolis.
Large valleys that once were were lakes, and varying depths of trenches where once flowed fast rivers make up this now desolate place. The air is very dry but unlike that of a usual sandy desert it is cold. Winds pick up the sand and spin them unbound by any construct. Massive dunes are created, making the soft ground difficult to travel. Very often there are storms present, and not surprisingly there can be multiple at a time. This makes for super storms to be whipped up on a regular bases depending on the time of year; which happens to be late summer early fall.
But what this place is most famous for is the kind of storms produced. Quite literally it is acid rain. Very little neutral water is produced from these storms and, in fact, the rain itself tends to soak up any water it comes in contact with. This leaves for no vegetation to survive nor any life for that matter. Mountains encompassing the majority of the Wastelands contain the savage storms to a great extent, making places like the Ruined City livable if careful. Unfortunately for the city the mountains closest to it are comparably smaller than the others surrounding the harsh terrain.
The rains and storms make the Wastelands a favorable place to dump unwanted junk. Included in this junk is often people. Skeletons of past Blocker offenders and even some the Earthen Psychics have thrown out and can be found scattered around these parts, though you would have to dig to find most of them. Usually if a skeleton is visible that means the body isn't much more than a week old.
