“Wise up, Aka,” muttered Eve. “If Roxfoth’s here, we’re dead. Jorino doesn’t want us dead, so he wouldn’t have sent us.” Beside her, Aka nodded, letting his small sparks of electricity run through the room as he relaxed slightly, the magic in the flickering light detecting the presence of any enchanted item.
Despite Eve’s words, apprehension refused to leave her as she examined the spacious dining room, checking every location for the single item that kept Roxfoth living in such a large house.
If I was ex-King Roxfoth IX, where would I hide my stain?
“It’s not here, Eve.” She turned around to see a somewhat paler Akana facing her – surely such little magic could hardly take so hard a toll on someone like Aka. He was nervous.
“Then it’ll be in another room,” she said impatiently. “Let’s go upstairs.”
Akana shook his head. “I checked the whole house, Eve, I really don’t think it’s here.” His voice began to take on a scared tone.
“Everywhere?” Her dark eyes narrowed slightly. “Let’s try from upstairs. Roxfoth’ll have designed it to be like this.”
Moments later, the partners made their way downstairs again, Aka clutching a decorative pyramid in his left hand.

after a surprise short day of school a young boy walked home.
"after all that we had a short day...never again am i going to spend the entire day studying for deflecting magic...i cant even do it to begin with!" shouted this young boy to himself. as he walked up to the entrance to his house he noticed that the door was slightly opened. knowing that his mother and father where at work still he entered the house hesitantly. looking around he noticed that parts of the house had been overturned and out of place. not knowing what to do first he hid behind a larger curtain near the door way. "what’s going on!?" he told himself in his mind. peeking his head out the sides he noticed a man and a woman standing in the corner of the main room.
upon further notice he saw that one was holding his fathers treasure. he knew that over all the things he had that was his most favorite one. "are...are they going to steal it?" he thought as he watched growing worried for his fathers treasure. he knew if he didn’t act soon his father would blame him for the loss of it. "i got to do something!" thought the angered boy. feeling his anger build up he slowly walked out from behind the curtain. his body was heating up. his eyes started to tear as he almost robotically walked over to the 2 people that where standing and talking amongst them self’s. now within a few feet he stopped and looked at the two as they now turned and noticed the boy with a red glow around him

"Well, what do we have here?" announced Akana; Eve looked up and cursed. This boy - Roxfoth's son, she supposed, Shoma if she'd done her research correctly - shouldn't have been home for another three hours. What if Roxfoth or his wife returned, now? How much longer did they have? Was there something she'd missed?
Aka glanced at her, hesitating. The boy couldn't have been over fifteen - fourteen, she recalled - young, by her partner's standards. Still, Eve had been able to cause some damage herself at fourteen.
His hands sparking slightly, Akana slipped the pyramid into his pocket; Eve knew Shoma had already seen it. The kid was angry. There's no time for this!

"Give me my dad's pyramid!" he yelled as one of them put it into his pocket. "I’m Shoma! and i wont let you take my dads pyramid!" Shoma yelled as he raised his hand and shot a blast of fire that missed and scorched the wall next to the two.

Stepping coolly away from the blast, despite the fact that it didn't come within a metre of her, Eve brushed imaginary ash off her shoulder. Beneath the calm surface, her mind raced. This kid shouldn’t have any powers! He was untrained, he didn't have a clue what he was doing, but he certainly was causing more than a little damage – mainly to his father’s house, but that wasn’t the point. Eve was not planning on being hit by those flames. Hopefully he would tire himself out - such a strain on a body not used to performing this magic: with any luck it would give out soon.
Beside her, Aka was becoming irritated. "The neighbours’ll hear him screaming," he muttered, moving away from more awry flames. “We gotta leave. Bring him with us?”

"I said drop my dad's pyramid or I’ll...stop...you..." was the final few words Shoma said before he collapsed as expected. he had used his powers before but every time he would eventually he would lose consciousness. it was really sad to say but he wasn’t able to use his powers. for some reason he had never really developed his powers. what had just happened was his extent of his abilities.
after some time he woke to find that he wasn’t in side his house anymore.

Finally emerging from the back of Roxfoth's house, Akana and Eve slipped out onto the busy street, switched to the guise of a young couple. Laughing softly at some non-existent joke, Eve wove her arms around her partner; Aka swung and arm over her shoulder. It was only a short walk to Jorino's household, anyway. Digging into her leg was the metal pyramid, crushed between them in the pocket of Aka's baggy pants.
It had been a quick move of Aka's to carry the kid upstairs in what had seemed to be his own bedroom. Confuse his father, the investigators. They'd been careful to leave no traces of their presence, beyond the boy's scorched walls - and of course the missing pyramid.
Before them, a man stepped out of the hurrying crowd, wearing the traditional dress of Karan, the next island - a common sight. His face was somewhat familiar.
"You're heading to the party now? Do you have the present?" Aka nodded. A birthday party, it seemed, was today's code.
"Come with me, then," requested the man, who Eve now recognised as Jamaal, Jorino's rarely-seen second. "We'll surprise him when he comes home from work." A surprise party. Eve nearly laughed. "Kwoya is waiting for you in the cafe on the corner," Jamaal added to Eve.
With that, Eve stopped smiling. Kwoya is waiting, nobody is waiting for you. Go home, you're done here. Annoyed but refusing to show it, Eve nodded curtly and cheerfully slapped at Aka's waiting hand before walking off down the street.

As Shoma stood he noticed that his surroundings where different. not only did he not know where he was but he didn’t understand how he was floating above an island! he looked down and noticed that he was above a large pool it was a blinding yellow. infact Shoma's entire body was that color now. as he stood magically in the air he suddenly noticed that he was descending. after a time of dropping he landed in the large pool of yellow. "ah! this is stain!" he suddenly realized. he knew that from school, they had thought him that stain was the first thing that had ever existed in the planet. also that it was extremely deadly to any livening creature. but now that he was in the stuff he didn’t know what to do! Shoma struggled and then realized that he wasn’t in any pain. also the stain didn’t burn like they had told him that it would. "what the heck is going on!" Thought Shoma. suddenly he was rocketed out of the stain and into the sky. his body felt as it was being pulled apart from the intense force. and just as suddenly it started it stopped.
jumping almost off his bed he woke to find that he was in his room...he wiped the sweat off his brow and noticed his hands where scorched... "SHOMA!" screamed a woman from outside his room..."ah...yes mom?"

Sitting down, Eve ignored the fact that Nobody Was Waiting For Her and requested a juice of her friend behind the counter. Typical Jamaal. A not-exactly-friend of Aka's, really, but more importantly, she reminded herself, Aka had had the stain, not her.
She was still somewhat amazed they'd pulled it off, Aka and her. A grin rose onto her face, and she was clos to laughing aloud by the time she paid for her drink.
In the bathrooms, Eve swapped her practical, comfortable robe-like outfit for a tighter, long-sleeved dress, the dark blue matching her dark skin. Still smiling at their success, Eve left her bag with her friend and stepped out of the bar.

Shoma now going down stairs to see both his parents in hysterics. not only where there scorches on the walls but his father had realized that his pyramid was missing. "what happened here?!" yelled his mother. "Where is it? give me my pyramid now! you know you shouldn’t-" "some one broke in and stole it ok!? I was trying to get it back and I...I ended up using my powers." Shoma tried to explain now hoping he wasn’t going to get in more trouble. but apparently this only made things worst. "Shoma you little...ah! if you used your powers then why did they get away?!" yelled his father. "I used them and I missed! I tried dad!" Pleaded Shoma. "and what after you didn’t call the police? you decided to go up to your room and take a nap!" screamed Shoma's mother as she walked over to him and slapped him across the face, the force of it knocked him down to the floor. "worthless boy. your brother would never have let this happen, he actually knew how to use his magic...ah this boy is one disappointment after another..." sighed Shoma’s father as he walked out of the room holding his head. his mother gave Shoma one last look and fallowed.
"iv had enough of this..." cried Shoma quietly to himself on the floor. he brought himself up and rushed out the door.

Like any thief, a bored Eve found herself to the scene of the crime. A few minutes walking led her to the realisation that she was retracing her steps to the Roxfoth household.
Surprised at herself, she continued walking. She could drop in at Yllia's place, just around the corner here - Yllia was always good company to chat with, always had good food, and nearly always had good friends over. Relieved that now she had no reason to turn around, Eve continued on, ducking into a shop quickly to buy Yllia a quick, edible gift to make up for her unexpected arrival.
Crashing into someone, Eve swore, pausing to pick up the present. The person continued to walk away without so much as an apology. Annoyed, Eve looked up to see a fourteen-year-old boy staring at her from the far side of the road.
Funny, really, how such a young boy could scare her into running away with just a glance.

Now a bit away from the his house Shoma wondered the streets. even though he wasn’t one to take off like this he knew that he didn’t want to be home right now...then he noticed some one...it was her.
"I would never have guessed it when i saw her. the one who just stole my fathers pyramid and the sole reason i was in trouble. just standing there..." thought Shoma
as Shoma stood in shock the thief started to run after seeing him. with out another thought Shoma ran after him. "just stay in control...don’t get upset!" Shoma told himself as he chased the thief through the streets. even though she was fast he was able to keep up.
"there’s no way I’ll give up this time!" confidently thought Shoma.

Running through the suddenly slow-moving crowds, realised Eve, would only make her stand out further. But it wasn't concealment she wanted - it was distance. No chance she could go to Yllia's now and risk her friend when the boy told the authorities where Eve had headed.
Choosing the edge of the buildings as the easiest place to run quickly, where less people walked, she sprinted with no particular direction in mind - just away. Still clutching Yllia's gift, she looked back to check if the boy was following her: he was. Quite a way back, but still there. Cutting around a corner onto another street, and then another, Eve hoped it was enough to give her a good lead to slip into a cafe just on her right.

still on the thief’s trail Shoma continued to weave between the people. luckily because the thief was knocking people out of the way they had expected another and cleared the way for him. it was a good feeling because now not only was he not upset but he was getting closer and closer to what he wanted. suddenly she swooped into a small cafe. she ran passed a few tables, "this will end now!" thought Shoma as he picked up a mug that was on a table and threw it like a rock at the thief. it flew for a few seconds and hit...someone...but was it her?

Eve skidded to a halt, thanking the lucky stars she'd slowed in the restaurant, otherwise the missile, whatever it was, would have shattered on her head rather than knocking into the waitress's side. Poor Carell. Too late now.
She ducked out through the kitchen door, hurriedly apologising to the staff as she knocked them over. Plunged through the kitchen, burst through the back door -
- a courtyard.
Shit. Spinning around, she saw Shoma emerge from the kitchen behind her, narrowly avoiding a collision with several large, metal bins.
Tall stone walls, hemming her in. A metal grate door in the corner - locked. Covered in ivy - maybe she could climb up, if she had the time. Maybe the boy would set it all on fire. Who could know.
Turning back to face Shoma, she made sure she was away from the walls and not in a corner. If it came down to a physical fight...

"here she was...but now what?! and crap...what if she had powers...this didn’t look good." thought Shoma
Shoma kept his eyes on the girl as she stood there. "who are you!" shouted Shoma to her. "and why did you want my dad's pyramid?" Shoma added as he picked up a broom that lay near the door. with the broom in hand and pointed at his opponent he was ready for anything...except magic.

Eve could have laughed. Why did she want it? This boy was such a child.
"Why would anyone want something as powerful and, more importantly, as valuable as your father's stain?" she smiled. "People would kill for something like that. We tried not to." The implication was clear. Letting her hand play over her face, she let her hair down. If the boy memorized her face...
"Shoma, right? How old are you, Shoma? Fourteen, I think? Yeah. I don't think that broom is going to help you much....Look at this reasonably," she continued, her voice calm. "What are the chances you could get out of this alive? You shouldn't chase after criminals, child, it's generally not a good move."
She paused. "Of course, if you chose to forget the whole incident, and our faces, you could live considerably longer. My people can be ruthless, but they don't need to know this happened. I can keep them off you, if you want."

Shoma listened to these words and felt scared. this wasn’t good. she was right. and what was that about the pyramid being made of stain? "dad never told me about that...but with what was going on I don’t know if I’ll be able to get it back...i got to try." thought Shoma as he now took a step forward with the broom in his hand.
suddenly there was large booming sound as a man almost destroyed the door behind him. "Now who did this?!" yelled a giant of a man, he was dressed in a chefs outfit and held a gigantic butcher knife (but in comparison to him it looked like a steak knife) "what’s this all then, a fight? well there will be no fighting on my watch, so why don’t you guys cool off" he said with a laugh as he pointed his knife at the two of us. The knife shot out a large blue beam, it hit our legs, a cold feeling srounded them as I was now standing in a block of ice! we now stood frozen and at the mercy of this giant. Not looking good.

Hissing as icy fingers crawled up her ankles, Eve scowled. This was not the time.
The man laughed as she and Shoma remained silent. "How's that? Now you little children sit here and think about how you were bad," he mocked, "and I'll come back and deal with you later." He spun around and strode back into the kitchens still laughing, the doors clanging behind him. Eve heard the door being locked - now even if they could get out of the ice, they'd have to climb the walls. Beside her, Shoma swore and slumped awkwardly onto the ice.
Eve remained standing; casually taking advantage of the empty moment, she retied her wind-tossed hair and slipped a pair of long leather gloves onto her hands, then sighed when she realised she had to remove at least one again anyway. Feeling uncomfortable, she looked up to find Shoma's eyes on her; Eve glared and the boy found something very interesting in the corner to look at instead.
Crouching for a moment to place her hands around her frozen feet, she watched as the ice began to melt. In a few seconds her feet were free. She stepped away carefully to ensure she didn't slip on the ice and stretched, despite the fact that she'd been stuck for less than a minute.

"man this is not my day!" thought Shoma. even thinking about how he was trapped made him upset. but in this position he couldn’t afford to lose control. it would be best if he just tried to stay still and wait. suddenly he noticed that the thief’s feat where free. thinking quickly he said. "you better let me go too unless you want me to yell for the giant so he can freeze more than your feat." now smiling Shoma looked at the thief seeing what she would say and do.
