Metropolis is located generally underneath the wreckage on the surface. Several passages exist from the above to the city under the crust, though they are usually very void of activity. Three exist on the east-northern end of the underground, coming up somewhere in the northern sector of the destroyed city. Two come up in the center of the rubble; one on the southern boundary that comes up outside the city; another two that start on the western side but curve around to meet the surface in the north. The passages are, on average, twenty feet wide and fifteen high giving tons of room for the people to move in large groups if need be.
The actual city is pretty massive. At first it was made mostly of just caverns with the sides barely touched. But as time passed the survivors started bringing material down from the city above and began building. They expanded and secured their new home, creating buildings from a mix of rock and steel; support beams to assure that the roof would never cave above them; dug and burrowed to expand the length while mildly increasing their depth. To deal with the cold they built filters, poking holes in the ground around the outsides of Metropolis. It isn't a perfect solution, as not every area can be warmed equally. Light is solved by the usual electricity, fire not being much of an option.
Residents have found comfort in the person per. square foot ratio. The Metropolis isn't nearly as crowded as a usual city, giving every owner of land a very territorial sense about their home, and those who don't have a home tend to be very spiteful. The streets are often dangerous to walk alone, as most of the low lives have some sort of ability and are willing to use them if they would gain something from it.
But not all the psychics down here are bad. There was a school developed for the younger ones that teaches them about their abilities and how to use them. Of course, it is very low budget and not everyone can be helped the same way, leaving a few more unique kids having to experiment with their powers in order to discover their potential and gain control. The building is only a couple rooms, all possessing nothing inside them making it seem more like a gym than anything else. Objects to practice on are usually retrieved from the surface, which are always inspected before use to make sure they wouldn't easily be used as a weapon. The teachers themselves are experienced psychics, though tend to have simpler abilities. Usually only powerful telekinesis and the like.
One of the famous areas to hang out outside of work is Zeno's Bar. It is only one of many drinking establishments, but it [of course] can be more than that if you know where you are going. Well informed individuals would know Zeno is the only place to go if you want some good information or perhaps a shady meeting. The place tends to attract quite a diverse crowd, including people that don't live in the Metropolis area.
