The young boy was quite content with himself for the past few hours. It was mid-day and so far he had seen nothing, not one trace of the ghooly that forever haunts him. Jayden quietly walked carefully down the broken sidewalk, close to the edge so no one would trample the little guy.
Being only seven and without a family, it was incredibly hard to get by. He wasn't old enough or strong enough to do any kind of job so he had to resort to stealing small amounts of food; just enough to get by. He often found he was exhausted due to his constant running and fear of what lurks in the dark. When ever he could he would be around people, or an animal that he trusted but even then he picked wrong sometimes.
Suddenly, a ruckuss from behind draws Jayden's attention. He turns his head a little so he can see what's going on but finds out quickly that moving is the better thing to do. A reckless driver came tearing down the street. Fleeing with rising fear of being hit, Jayden entered the nearest alleyway. He stopped and waited for the vehicle to go by but when he was about to leave someone grabbed him from behind, and not gently either.
The boy was roughly turned to see a scraggy man staring at him. Tears came to Jaydens eyes as he desperately tried to break free of the mans grasp...

Lune eagerly searched the streets of Metropolis, looking for her friend Justice. It wasn't unlike Justice to go off and disappear once in a while, but those in charge of DetaB had been especially upset that she'd taken one of their ships with her.
She could only be on Earth and Metropolis was the likely place to start. So far, however, there was no sign of her friend. Lune didn't fool herself into thinking Justice was incapable of taking care of herself, but even a girl as tough as Justice could be overpowered. And Fist was interested in getting his shuttle back as soon as possible. They couldn't spare a single one. Justice must have really felt trapped up there if she'd stoled a ship just to get some alone time.
Lune stuffed her hands into her pockets as she continued on her way. From somewhere behind her a car screeched and nearly went up onto the curb. A small boy jumped at the noise and dashed down an alley. Lune watched him go, and curiously looked down the alley as she walked past.
It was such a passing glance that she almost missed the confrontation happening only a few feet away. Lune did a double take and saw the boy was grappling with a scruffy looking man.
Without a word a no indication of her feelings other than a twist to her lips that could have been a scowl, she gathered energy into her palm and shot it into the man's chest just above the child's head.
"Why don't you try someone who can defend themselves, scum?" Lune sneered. If there was one thing that really pissed her off, it was people who took advantage of those weaker than them. The man stumbled but didn't let go.
"Release the kid and maybe I won't burn your eyes out of their sockets." She'd never do something that gruesome, of course, but the threat sounded convincing even to her ears. She started to gather more energy, ready for another attack...

The man's breathing became faster and harder as he stared wide eyed at the girl. Panicking, he threw away Jaydens tiny arm and fled from the stronger not wanting to be injured any further, especially in the way she described to him.
Jayden, luckily, wasn't thrust into a wall with the force. Instead he tripped on some of the side-line trash and fell onto it's more soft density. He made an almost silent yelp as his world was tipped around and blurred, but he quickly wiped the tears from his eyes and moved around so he could escape the clutches of the trash. Plus he desperately wanted to see the person that had aided him.
As he righted himself, with a bit of a teeter from past exhaustion steadily creeping up on his body, he turned his attention to Lune in wonder. He looked up to her with a curious look that ended up changing into one of pain. A pouting lip attempted to cross his face but he stayed unmoving and looking up to the girl.

"Are you okay, kid?" Lune asked, approaching the kid slowly. When she reached him she squatted down to his level and smiled. "Did he hurt you?" She held her hand out to the boy to help him up, trying not to smile at the boy's bewildered look. She had such a soft spot for kids.

Jayden remained silent but at least now he was convinced that she would do him no harm. First he moved out his arm that the man had grabbed but the motion was quickly followed by a full body move. He somehow made it past her knees and grabbed her around the middle in a light but strong hold.
No tears came to the boys eyes as he half buried his face into her clothes. He didn't whimper or inhale uncontrollably. Jayden stayed quiet completely relieved to have someone else there with him and hoped that she wouldn't leave anytime soon.
After a few minutes he slowly released her from his fragile hold. He attempted to look at her eyes but found he'd rather focus at her nose instead of looking into her eyes. "I not hurt..." he managed to push out of his mouth though it came out fairly weak.

To say that Lune was surprised by the boy's actions would have been an understatement. Even with her weak empathetic abilities, she could feel the boy's relief.
"My name's Lune," She said to the boy. "Are you hungry, kid? You look scrawnier than an anorexic cheerleader. Why don't we go get something to eat and you can tell me what happened, okay?"

A portion of enlightenment came across Jayden's face as he looked at her. Most of the time he spent his day looking for someone trustworthy enough to just spend one night with until he moved onward. Having his family gone and horrors follow him and appear before him, especailly during the night, he couldn't stand being alone in the dark. It was his greatest fear; being taken away or hurt by anything that wasn't considered a friend.
Jayden wasn't sure what some of the words she said were but he could just tell by her tone that it wasn't anything bad. "Okay," he replied innocently. "I'm Jayden," was all he added on. At the moment he was willing to follow her anywhere she felt was good, since he didn't really know many places around this area.
