Griffon scowled at the mounds of rubble around his home in the Ruined City. The latest Blocker raid had left the place even worse off than it normally was and worst of all was that their small garden patch had been buried under a crushed building.
He kicked aside a few rocks and sneered at the ruined plants. They were completely inedible now. "What the hell am I supposed to take Honey for food now?" He said aloud.
Sometimes they stole food rations from passing Blocker supply trains, but lately there had been no opportunites to swipe food from them. And now their back up supply...their garden which he and his younger sister had painstakingly planted and kept shelted from the harsh atmosphere, was completely destroyed.
"God dammit!" he cried, picking up and rock and hurling it with all his strength. His rage amplified his strength and the rock soared off into the distance. 'How am I supposed to tell Honey that we have to go hungry again?'

Luna was wandering around minding her own business, for the most part anyway, when she heard someone cry out in anger. Her first thoughts were to just let them be, since they seemed really pissed, but curiosity, like usual, got the better of her.
Luna slightly quickened her pace as she went around a bit of fallen ruin. When she turned what was pretty close to a corner, she saw a man standing over a few plants. Immediatly she felt what he did... Just not about the exact same thing. "Oh my...!" she quickly ran over to the man and looked down at the poor plants, not even bothering to finish her sentence. "What happened to make this pile of rubble fall on these poor things?!" She went down on her knees and touched one of them.

Griffon blinked down at the strange girl who'd come out of nowhere. He stared at her in confusion as she knealt down by the crushed garden. "It was a...Blocker raid..." He said slowly, unsure if the girl was even aware that he was there. "They blew up a building and..." He gripped his hands into fists again as the rage came back. "How dare those bastards! Why the hell can't they just leave us alone?!" He started cursing rather loudly and kicked more rubble around as he tried to vent. His sister's face flashed in his mind.
She would be understanding when he told her about the garden, but he knew she was slowly starving, even if she never complained. She was too good a kid to be stuck with him. He couldn't even feed her!

"A... Blocker... raid..." she replied. She seemed kind of in a trance but she quickly slipped back to reality. She took one last look at the dead plants then stood up and turned to the man. "I hardly think it's worth swearing over," she cracked a smile. The only reason she could do that was because she didn't fully understand what Griffon was feeling. "Though I do agree... About them leaving psychics and average people alone. But, what's done is done!" she tried to cheer him up, even though it didn't seem to be totally working. She held out her right hand, "I'm Luna." She disliked the Blockers, but maybe not as much as some people. She just couldn't bring herself to hate someone or a group of people--at least, when she was in a good mood.

Griffon scowled at the girl's hand and didn't offer his own. "Griffon," He said, purely for the sake of his failing manners. Honey would be proud. Normally he would just scoff and leave. He didn't exactly trust other people.
"And I don't think you fully understand, girl." He sneered, "Those plants were food. Now I can't eat. Now my sister cannot eat. All because those damned Blockers like to make weekly raids on this area!" He grabbed a wilted plant and tore it from the ground and ripped it up into tiny shreds. What had Honey told him about how to control his temper? Deep breaths. Yes, that was it. Take deep breaths.
He did so and slowly felt his mood level out to something of mild irritation. He wanted to just give up and go home, but he couldn't go back without food. It looked like he would have to go on a trip to the inner city and try to bargain with the low-lifes for some stolen rations. He hated the dealers that lived deep in the city. They were shady and dirty and would stab in the back for a pack out out-of-date peanuts if they knew you had them. And if, like Griffon, you couldn't pay...well, it was never a good thing to be in their debt.
At one point people like that had dealt in drugs and other illegal substances. It was a sad thing when the people you had to be the most careful with were the people selling you food. "Stupid dealers," He grumbled.

Luna retracted her hand but was happy with just his name. She listened to what he had to say and was starting to understand, but she would never fully get it.
When Griffon shredded the plant right in front of Luna her expression changed to a slight horror. "Oh my god! What did you do that for!? That plant was in horrible shape already!" She slightly glared at him but couldn't stay mad at him long--he looked like he already had enough problems. Luna sighed, "There's always other places to get food, though there's no replacement for home grown." Luna smiled once again.
Luna wasn't used to dealing with people in a mood like this. All the people she had known were happy when she was happy. This guy was slightly dampening her mood, but she felt sorry for him--a little. "I could... help you food wise," she tried to cheer him up. Luna wasn't exactly raking in cash but she did still have most of what she had on Mars.

"How could you help?" Griffon asked suspiciously. Spending his entire life in the Ruined City hadn't left him very trusting of other people, not even psychics. "And why?"

"Well ummm... I don't know, how would you like me to help?" she paused to think of some things. "I could go buy some food for you. I try to save my money since it comes from trees but if it's for a good cause then I could break down and get some stuff. Or I could just give you some money," she looked at him hopefully. She wanted to help--she really did. But as to convince him that she wasn't just playing him... She was lost. "As to why... I'm not sure. Other than the fact that I feel sorry for you and your sister or whoever," again, she paused, "Would it help if I said I also hate Blockers?"

Griffon frowned, but it was obvious that this girl was going to remain persistent. "Fine," he said gruffly. "If you really want to help then you can come with me to see the food dealers. How much money do you have?" He wasn't usually one to accept charity from strangers, but he had to swallow his pride for his sister. Still, if he had to do it, he damn well wasn't going to ler her think he would owe her for anything. In fact, he wouldn't even let himself sound gratreful, although he was. It wasn't his way.

"Oh ummm..." Luna started as she began to dig through her pockets. She pulled out a five with a couple quarters from her jacket pocket but continued searching with her other hand in her jean's pockets. A few moments afterwards she pulled out a twenty. "Looks like twenty-five fifty. I've got more elsewhere but this is all I have here. I could go get more if we need it." She held the bills scrunched in her hands as she put her pocket insides back.

Griffon frowned at the bills but shrugged his shoulders. "It will have to do." He didn't have any money, but he'd hoped he could bargain with the food dealers for something else of value. He found a lot of old watches among the ruins and other things that people might be interested in.
Griffon turned his back on Luna and started to lead the way into the heart of the city where the scum could be found. He and his sister lived on the outskirts, away from the weirdos, but it looked like ever there wasn't safe anymore.
They walked in silence for a while, and Griffon wondered if he should make an attempt at conversation. She seemed like the friendly type who would appreciate that sort of thing. But what did girls even talk about? Griffon had no idea. 'Oh well,' he thought, 'Not like I care anyway.'

Luna followed Griffon in silence. It was deeply bugging her--the silence. She needed to have something to do, other than look at fascinating different shaped rocks. She pondered her mind for the longest time to think about anything that seemed interesting and what she thought could go on for a longer time than two minutes.
Luna tried to stay away from personel questions but those were really the only interesting things she could think of--other than things about the weather. Luna finally decided on one that she didn't think was very personel but didn't know if he'd be interested in it very much. "So, do you and you sister like growing a garden? I've enjoyed plants in my backyard a lot but not too many people stay interested."

Griffon looked back at Luna and frowned for a moment. "Honey likes having a garden." He answered finally. "But it's more of a neccesity than anything else. Most of our food comes from the garden. We grow beans and tomoatoes and things. Potatoes...those survived at least." He sighed openly. "I hate potatoes."
They were nearing the more clustered area of thecity now, and Griffon slowed down his strides as he kept his eyes on the dark alleys. Anyone could jump outand attack them here. He wasn't surehow capable Luna was of defending herself, although a pretty girl in a place like this had to have at least know a little bit. "Stay close," He warned her. He could see the old ware house ahead where he knew his usual dealer would be hiding out.

Luna gave Griffon a wierd look. 'Stay close?' she thought at first, then quickly realized why he had said that. She trotted closer to him but was still a fair distance away--enough for personal space anyways. Luna didn't like crowding people. She did make a few glances to her sides once and a while but never saw anything that could be harmful. 'Unless someone's hinding in a dumpster...' she cringed at the thought.

"In here," Griffon said sharply, leading the way inside the warehouse. He glanced around the dark shadows looking for the dealer. "You're about to meet the scum of the universe," He warned Luna as he heard the dealer heading towards them.
"Well..." A cold voice sneered, "I haven't seen you in a while, Griffon. I hear the Blockers made a raid down in the outskirts and I thought maybe you'd been...done in." The disguting man's lips curled up in a cruel smirk.
"Shut up, Rat. I'm just here to get some supplies." The dealer (<--minor character, no profile needed) really did resemble a Rat. The Earth's atmosphere had caused him to be hideously deformed. Birth defects were a common problem, but most born deformed didn't live very long. Too bad Rat hadn't befallen the same fate.
"Is that any way to speak to the man whose feeding you and your darling little sister?" He scowled.
Griffon was quickly losing his patience. "Listen Rat, just..."
He was cut odd when Rat noticed Luna standing behind him. "Oh. And who is this little morsel?" He clicked his tongue against his teeth and slunk closer to Luna, reaching out totouch her hair.

Luna didn't want to seem rude but didn't want to let him just touch her like he was going for. She backed off, dodging him, then went to the other side of Griffon. "Ummm, nice to meet you too..." she half mumbled with a forced smile.

"That's enough, Rat." Griffon sneered. "We're just here to get some food, so why don't you run along to your store room and get some for us?" Rat scowled at the man and muttered a few curses under his breath before doing as he was asked. He knew better than to mess with Griffon. "Don't worry about him," Griffon said to Luna, "He may be ugly and creepy but he won't try anything as long as I'm around."

She hesitated to say anything as she stared at the spot 'Rat' had disappeared into the back, "That's... nice to know." She snapped out of her stare and smiled at Griffon. Luna was happy that Griffon seemed a little warmer towards her now--or at least talking with her without her starting the conversation.

Griffon was silent as they waited for Rat to get the food. It didn't take long and after Griffon had made sure it wasn't rotten they were able to get out of there relatively unharmed but a little smellier.
"I suppose it would be rude of me to just tell you to get lost now," Griffon said honestly, "So why don't you come back to my place with me? You can meet my sister. She'll like you." Griffon paused a moment, "She likes eveyone." He clarified.

Luna beamed, "Really? I mean, thank you!" She was extremely relieved to be out of that place. It seriously stunk and now she was carrying its scent. Though she quickly forgot about her discomfort when Griffon offered to show her his and his sisters place.
They had walked quite a ways, though it wasn't really that long it felt like ages to Luna, and she just had to spark a new conversation. "So where do you and your sister live?"
