Alec frowned after the younger man's retreating back. What was wrong with him? Perhaps he'd hit a nerve, something personal. "Isn't that why we're Blockers?" He tried to shrug off the thought, returning to conversation with the guard beside him.
"Yeah, you are," he tried joking, grinning at Jake's pout. "I can't see you! Really. And it's not your rank...it's because....you're a redhead! So there!" He poked his tongue out childishly, chuckling. "Maybe he prefers brunettes. Actually, were you ever teased because you had red hair? It's sort of uncommon, y'know." His light-hearted face easily hid the thoughts his mind debated.

Earika plunked down on the seat that Jayson had vacated. "Anyone sitting here? Nope I thought as much." She didn't have a meal. "I was bored and saw this empty seat, so I thought I'd come and chat." She didn't pause for air. "You're Alec and you're Jake. Nice to meet you, I'm Eerie, short for Earika." She stopped abruptly and twirled a strand of her hair in her left fingers.

Laughing a bit at Jake, Alec's eyebrows quirked and he smiled as the dark-haired girl sat down. "Earika, right? Been eavesdropping, have we?" As the scientist was distracted by the newcomer, Jayson promptly slipped from his mind. "How're you?"

Earika grinned, "Eavesdropping? Nope, no dropping eaves for me!" She laughed at her own joke and continued to grin. "I'm great! New here. So, what do you do?" She snapped her fingers. "You're a scientist!"

"No, really?" Alec muttered sarcastically, rolling his eyes. "I just wear a lab coat for fun..." But seconds later, he was surprised to find that he'd actually left his coat in the lab, for a change. (He did have a tendency to forget about it when his aide dragged him out of the lab in order to make him eat something.) Hendin was mildly disturbed to find she'd guessed dead accurate first time without the obvious clue.
"What, does my reputation go before me?" he joked, "or a you a mind-reader - a psychic or something?!" He chuckled.

"Of course I'm a psychic!" She said it in a teasing manner, but it was the truth. Her confidence wavered a touch, but she managed to keep her smile in place. "So, what do you do in your 'lab'?" She was curious, and they had told her to act as she normally would. That included telling the truth, all the time. It was a good thing that she wasn't told anything about DetaB, she only reported. If asked/prodded, she would tell secrets, she wouldn't lie.

As Jake continued to eat his food he noticed the sarcasm in both Earika and Alec’s voice. just something he didn’t want to get involved in. "think ill just wait it out till its safe to talk..."

“I’m being asked that a lot today,” said Alec, reminded of Jayson’s abrupt departure. “I do research, I experiment – Blocker experiments, naturally, psychics and stuff – but other research, more important to keeping a large human colony alive and kicking out here on Moon.”
He hardly paused for breath. “It’s interesting – I could show you around the lab some time, if you’d like? Both of you?” he added, looking at Jake and noticing his ducked head. “You’d enjoy it, I bet. How could you not?” His enthusiasm was infectious.

Earika grinned widely. A perfect opportunity, she couldn't have planned it better herself. "I'd love to!" SHe exclaimed. If she had been in DetaB, she would have cheered, but they would think her strange here. And not strange as in normaly strange, but abnormal.

(I swear I updated this earlier. Swear it. Sorry, I've been kinda lousy lately.)
Alec got to his feet, smiling eagerly. "Great. I'll have to get you passes and stuff - there's so much security -" He paused and realised that maybe it wasn't a great idea to invite two people he'd known for only a few hours into the laboratory of the strongest military anti-psychic corporation... Things could go badly for both the potential visitors and himself. Earika was unusual.. could there be something wrong?
"Hey, if I can't get you in, I'm really sorry - the security is really tight, and now that I think of it I don't know if I could." He hastily disposed of his dishes in the nearest compactor. "I've got to go, I'll be late for this... See you, guys, I'll get back to you on these passes. Later, Jake." Hendin slipped his glasses out of his pocket and put them on, walking out of the door, his pace easy.

She beamed at him. "I'd love to, but you'd have to pick, my ideas consist of playing soccer on one of Jupiters moons! Or skiing! How would you like to ski on Venus? I think that'd be fun!" She paused in her ranting to wait for his answer.

She laughed. "I love it, more'n I like basketball, can't understand that game really..." She trailed off then hopped up. She bounced over and pulled him out of his seat. "Come on! Come on!" She 'encouraged', pulling on his arm, leading him to a place where they could play. (OOC: Why is it I always end up playing sports with your characters? I'm glad you chose soccer this time, 'cause I can at least understand that game...  I like badminton...) |

A few hours later Earika burst out of the room they had been playing in, laughing. "Ah ha ha! That--" she stopped to laugh, "Was hilarious! You kicked it and it bounced off the goal and hit me on the head!" She leaned up against the wall to catch her breath and burst out laughing again.
